I am a Ripple Kid because: I raised money to help the Indonesian kids that were orphaned because of the Tsunami. The money will go towards their education so they can grow up and support themselves and give back to their communities.

Here's how I'm taking action in my community (tell us a few more details about what you're doing): I decided to have a bake sale and donate the proceeds to an organization that provides funding for scholarships for the orphans in Indonesia.

Here's how I got the idea: After the tsunami happened, I was watching TV with my family and it was so sad to see how much damage was done and how little there was left. We were talking about all the kids that had lost their parents and wondering what they were going to do without them. We talked about all the things we could do to help. A short time later my mom's friend sent her an email about her uncle who lives in Thailand. He is working with an organization that sponsors kids to go to school through 12th grade. I decided that was how I wanted to help.

These are the steps I took:

  1. I asked my mom for help
  2. I asked my friend to help me think of ideas to raise money.
  3. We decided to have a bake sale.
  4. We made a list of all the things we wanted to sell and picked a date and a location for our sale.
  5. We spent the day before baking all the stuff.
  6. We made a sign and flyers talking about what we were doing.
  7. We got a table and some chairs.
  8. The day of the bake sale we set up our store and started selling!
Here are some of the results:
(Give us some numbers like – you washed 4 cars, you raised $75, you made 3 people smile) We raised almost $230 in one day. We sold 4 dozen cookies, 2 dozen brownies, 3 dozen lemon bars, 4 gallons of iced tea and 2 gallons of lemonade. People were so nice that they gave us more money than what their food cost.

These are the people who volunteer with me (check all that apply):

One of the coolest things that happened during my project was: One lady gave us her phone number and told us the next time we had a bake sale, she would help us with the baking.

One of the most important things I learned was: We are so lucky to have so much and it feels really good to do something for someone else.
