Stuffed Animal Collection

Here's how we're taking action in our community:

We asked our school to donate gently used stuffed animals for 2 charities: Stuffed Animals For Emergencies, and Loving Hugs, Inc.

Here's how we got the idea:

We had too many stuffed animals of our own and decided to give away some of them.

These are the steps we took:

We researched charities that would accept our stuffed animals and use them for a good cause. We put up a lot of signs at our school so that kids would know a lot about our project. We decorated a collection box and put it at our school. We waited for students to start donating stuffed animals, and the box filled up with 10-20 stuffed animals per day, sometimes a lot more. We counted them all up at the end of one week. We packed them into my dads truck and drove them to a charity dropoff, and shipped one box to a 2nd charity. It was a lot of fun!

Here are some of the results:

We collected over 450 stuffed animals!

One of the coolest things that happened during my project was:

Seeing the box overflow with donated stuffed animals and knowing that the kids receiving them would be getting lots of loving hugs. Also getting a giant, 6 high stuffed bear as a donation.

One of the most important things I learned was:

How much of an impact our collection could be to children who are in emergency situations and could use the comfort from these stuffed animals. Helping others makes a big difference. Giving 450 stuffed animals is better than receiving 450 stuffed animals.
