Here's how we're taking action in our community:
Our group collected new and gently used sports equipment to donate to local youth outreach groups which serve children in need, in our community, so that any child has the equipment they need to play a sport they love.
Here's how we got the idea:
I got the idea when I saw someone collecting for "Opportunity to Play" at another elementary school.
These are the steps we took:
We promoted the project at our school with signs, sending emails and using facebook and our school's electronic news.
We got collection bins and banners from the organizers of Opportunity to Play
We participated at our school's Ripple Kid Fair, collecting donations from students and families
We gave the donations to Opportunity to Play for distribution
Here are some of the results:
We collected a whole big SUV full of donated equipment. We do not yet know how many children got to use the equipment we collected.

One of the coolest things that happened was that the local baseball team was inspired to sponsor and have a collection at the end of the season.

We learned that not every child can play the sport they love because they cannot always afford the equipment they need. We felt good working to help other children play.
