Making Blankets and Dog Toys for Joyful Founation

Here's how we're taking action in our community:

My Girl Scout Troop 95 made blankets for sick people and made dog toys to sell and raise money for The Joyful Foundation. The Joyful Foundation makes and donates blankets for the sick. We made blankets and used scraps from the blankets they make to make dog toys that we sold at our school. The money our troop raised was given to the Joyful Foundation to buy more fleece to make blankets for cancer patients and other sick children and adults.

Here's how we got the idea:

My Girl Scout Troop visited The Joyful Foundation and decided to help them raise money.

These are the steps we took:

We talked about it in our Troop meeting. We got the blanket material from the Joyful Foundation and made two blankets each. We got the fleece from the Joyful Foundation and made dog toys. We made posters, put up flyers, and made an announcement at our school assembly, advertising the dog toy sale. We sold the dog toys at a table in front of our school for an hour after school was out on April 26.

Here are some of the results:

Our troop made about 20 blankets and sold over 100 dog toys! I made 16 dog toys myself.

One of the coolest things that happened during my project was:

Everyone really liked the dog toys and wanted to buy them for their dogs. It felt good to know we were raising money for the Joyful Foundation and also making dogs happy at the same time!

One of the most important things I learned was:

It can be fun and rewarding to do something for charity.
