Hi – Megan, here. So, you want to start a project, but need help getting started? Well, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve outlined some steps that might give you some ideas of where to start.

TIP: Are you a registered Ripple Kid? If so, login to use our cool planning tools. If not, what are you waiting for? Click here to find out all the cool stuff you get as a registered Ripple Kid.

  1. Who do you want to help?
Look around you. There are so many people and organizations that need help, that sometimes it can be overwhelming. One way to identify an area to start would be to consider what you’re passionate about. Do you love babies? Do you like to work with animals? Are you tired of looking at trash every time you go to the park? For my project to help the Tsunami victims, I was inspired by the fact that I had so much and these people had so little.

  2. How do you want to help?
Here are some questions to help you figure it out:
    • What do you like to do?
    • What are you good at?
    • How much time to you have?
    • Do you want to work with an established group, or start something on your own?

  3. Make a plan Now that you know what you want to do, figure out how to make it happen, using our cool planning tools Make a timeline and a list of the things you need to do to get it done. Do you need other volunteers to help you? If you want to work with a specific organization such as a retirement home or animal shelter, who do you need to talk to there to set a date and a time? You’ll need an adult to help you whether it’s a teacher, your parents or somebody else.

  4. Be a Ripple Kid! It’s time to implement your plan and make a difference in your community.

  5. Make sure you submit your project when you’re all done. You may end up being featured on the web site!

  6. Remember that you can continue to make a difference even after this project is complete. You may learn something the first time that helps you decide what you want to do next. Keep the ripples going!
